Mt. Manunggal Cebu

Mt. Manunggal, Cebu’s highest mountain is 3,559 feet above sea level. It rose to fame because of the plane crash in the year 1957 which took President Ramon Magsaysay’s life, along 25 other passengers. Over the years, it has become a sanctuary for hikers, trekkers, and campers.

The Baguio de Cebu eco-adventure park, where Mt. Manunggal is nestled, has been catering to those who want to commune with nature. They have attractions in the park apart from the campsite and the trek.

Transportation

  • Php150 to 200 per head for jeep  – one-way fare for chartered jeepney (minimum of 15 pax, maximum of 20) from JY Square Lahug to Barangay Tabunan
  • Php120 per head – one-way fare for a v-hire from Ayala Center Cebu terminal
  • Php200 to 250 per head – one way habal-habal fare from JY Square Lahug to Barangay Tabunan

How to get to Mt. Manunggal (Baguio de Cebu Eco Mountain Adventures)

Take a van for hire from Ayala Center Cebu terminal for a fare pegged at P120 per person to reach Mt. Manunggal. From there, you can hail a motorcycle for P50 per person to get to the campsite entrance. Alternatively, you can ride a chartered jeep or habal-habal from JY Square Mall.

From the receiving area of the eco-adventure park, hike for five to ten minutes to reach the camping site. It has established trails and comfort rooms you can use for camping.

For your Mt. Manunggal hike, climb for 30 minutes from the campsite for you to reach the Mount Manunggal peak. Along the way, you will pass by historic sites that will enlighten you about the unfortunate 1957 plane crash that killed President Ramon Magsaysay and 25 more including his cohorts and news correspondents.

Tips while in Mt. Manunggal Cebu

  • There are facilities within campsite of Mt. Manunggal such as toilets, showers, and sinks. The mountain springs are also a source of water.
  • For food, buy from the sari-sari stores at the campsite. You can also ask the households in the campsite to cook meals for you for a reasonable fee,.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat, arm guards, and trekking pants to protect your skin from the sun and prickly plants. To keep you cool, wear dry-fit shirt or rash guard.
  • You will need a lot of traction while trekking the slippery slopes of the mountain, so wear trekking shoes or sandals with an aggressive tread.  .
  • Ion-filled beverages such as Gatorade, coconut water, or fruit juice aside from water are a must to keep hydrated. Bring energy-rich trail food such as nuts, crackers, bread, and bananas.
  • Pack light.
  • Waterproof your belongings by wrapping your stuff inside dry sacks or plastic bags.
  • Please mind your trash and keep your voices low. Avoid unruly behavior.
