The Sinulog festival is the celebration of the Santo Niño de Cebú, an important relic in the country. This relic was handed to the Rajah Humabon of Cebu by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. Sinulog comes from the Cebuano word “sulog” which means “like water current movement”. It depicts the forward-backward step of Sinulog dance.dipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Sinulog festival history

The receiving of the statue of the baby Jesus paved the way to the birth of Christianity in the country.

Queen Juana who was the main consort of Rajah Humabon danced with joy upon receiving the statue, and natives followed her lead. This event was considered to be the first Sinulog dance, which is also believed to originate from Baladhay, Rajah Humabon’s adviser. Baladhay was said to have been cured after being put in the room where the statue was enshrined when he was sick. He was heard shouting a few days after and was found dancing by the native tribe. When asked why, he pointed at the image of the holy Jesus and explained that baby Jesus was tickling him.
