Starbucks coffee is a staple for most people in the metropolis. Young professionals, students, business people – they all gather at Starbucks for their good coffee and great ambiance. Over time, coffee has become more than just a convenient charge of caffeine: it has evolved to a gourmet experience. There has been an increased enthusiasm among coffee drinkers to experience coffee beyond the counter. Hence, the idea of Starbucks Reserve was conceived.

“Starbucks Reserve offers an “ultra-premium coffee experience” where coffee is an art and the interaction between the barista and consumer creates a greater awareness and a deeper understanding of coffee in its purest form—no cream, no sugar, no flavoring.”

What is Starbucks Reserve?

A new level of experience is achieved by watching your coffee being brewed and drinking it after, all while having a conversation with the Starbucks Coffee Master about your drink and where it came from. This is what Starbucks Reserve is all about.

Starbucks Reserve is part of the third-wave coffee movement. It offers an “ultra-premium coffee experience” where coffee is an art and the interaction between the barista and consumer creates a greater awareness and a deeper understanding of coffee in its purest form—no cream, no sugar, no flavoring.

The Starbucks Coffee Masters are not your average baristas. They have taken their craft to the next level and mastered the art of manual brewing and telling great coffee stories. You can tell them apart from the regular baristas with their black aprons.

Each Starbucks Reserve showcases such manual brewing methods as Pour-OverChemex, and Siphon, which highlight different flavor profiles. The coffees offered are exclusive, exotic, and rare in quantity, shedding light on the small-lot farms and the people behind them.

The inception of Starbucks Reserve is a response to the growing demand for elevated caffeine experience that pays more attention to the character of the coffee and its heritage. They now care less about the price than they do about the farm where their coffee was grown.

The concept of Starbucks Reserve first materialized in the form of a Roastery in Seattle, Washington, the birthplace of Starbucks. Starbucks Reserve Roastery was built as a place to showcase rare small-lot coffees and foster a true passion for coffee. Soon after, Starbucks Reserve stores opened around the world.

Starbucks Reserve first launched in the Philippines in 2014. They opened their first Reserve branch outside Metro Manila on December 22, 2019 at the AyalaMalls Central Bloc Cebu.

There are two coffee bars at this branch: One is the counter, where you get your drink in the conventional sense; the other is the Reserve Bar, specifically built to showcase various brewing methods so you can see how your drink is prepared.

The store’s interior design features soft curves and waves, all thanks to  Hannah Sol Hortelano-Obcial, an up-and-coming Filipino artist, whom Starbucks commissioned to adorn its walls. It has a modern contemporary feel, finished mostly in wood and stone tile.

For those who love coffee and ice cream, you can indulge in Starbucks Reserve Coffee + Ice cream line, made with handcrafted small-batch coffee paired with vanilla ice cream. Check the Reserve menu for your reference.

You can visit Starbucks Reserve Central Bloc Cebu at the ground floor. They operate from 9:00AM -11:30PM daily.
